New X-Men Movie Trailer: Where Things Stand
No trailer for the new X-Men movie has been reported, because Marvel Studios has only dated its untitled X-Men film for May 5, 2028 in US theaters, according to TheWrap, and the coverage of that announcement does not mention footage. So, the Marvel trailer is the one still to come, while the Fox films from 2000 to 2020 are the ones with trailers to compare. For the date and the latest status, the new X-Men movie has the full rundown.
The film was announced at Disney's D23 Expo in August 2026 with a first cast: Sadie Sink as Jean Grey, Kit Connor as Scott Summers / Cyclops, Christopher Abbott as Charles Xavier / Professor X, Inde Navarrette as Rogue, Maya Boyd as Ororo Munroe / Storm, Samara Weaving as Emma Frost and Adam Driver as Nathaniel Milbury / Mister Sinister. Jake Schreier is the director. Two further names are reported but not confirmed: Asa Germann as Angel, and Ben Wang as Bobby Drake / Iceman, a deal Collider says has not yet closed. TechRadar reports that Charles Melton is rumored for Hank McCoy / Beast and has reportedly expressed interest, which remains unconfirmed. Collider also reports a script by Lee Sung Jin and Joanna Calo, with no filming start date reported as of November 2, 2026.
Is X-Men in the Avengers: Doomsday Trailer?
No report confirms X-Men characters in Avengers: Doomsday. TheWrap places the Marvel X-Men film after Avengers: Secret Wars on the calendar, and the trailer breakdown videos on this topic are fan interpretation rather than studio confirmation. Fox era actors such as Patrick Stewart (Xavier), Ian McKellen (Magneto) and James Marsden (Cyclops) played those roles in the earlier films, and the Marvel cast names different actors as Xavier and Cyclops.
Will We See Jean Grey Again?
Yes, in the Marvel film, where Sadie Sink is confirmed as Jean Grey. She follows Famke Janssen, who played the character in X-Men (2000), X2, X-Men: The Last Stand and The Wolverine, and Sophie Turner, who played her in X-Men: Apocalypse and Dark Phoenix.
X-Men Movie Trailer by Film
Each Fox film sold a different promise, and the setups show it. The list follows release order, and X-Men movies in order covers the chronological version.
Main films
X-Men (2000), directed by Bryan Singer, opens in 1944 at Auschwitz with young Erik Lehnsherr bending a gate, then follows Logan and Rogue to Xavier's school as Senator Kelly pushes mutant registration. Hugh Jackman, Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen lead the cast. It reached US theaters on July 14, 2000.
X2, also directed by Singer, begins with a teleporting mutant attacking the President in the White House, then turns to Colonel William Stryker's raid on the school. Brian Cox plays Stryker and Alan Cumming plays Nightcrawler. The US release was May 2, 2003.
X-Men: The Last Stand, directed by Brett Ratner, centers on a treatment that removes mutant powers, with Kelsey Grammer as Beast and Jean Grey returning as Phoenix. Its $210 million budget was the largest of the first three films.
X-Men: First Class, directed by Matthew Vaughn, rewinds to 1962 with James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender as young Xavier and Erik, and Kevin Bacon as Sebastian Shaw. It is the first film in chronological order.
X-Men: Days of Future Past, directed by Singer, sends Wolverine's mind back to 1973 to stop the Sentinel program, and brings the original and First Class casts together. It grossed $746 million worldwide, according to Box Office Mojo.
X-Men: Apocalypse, directed by Singer, wakes the first mutant, En Sabah Nur (Oscar Isaac), in 1983, as he gathers Storm, Psylocke and Angel while Xavier's school takes in new students such as Scott Summers.
Dark Phoenix, directed by Simon Kinberg, follows Jean Grey (Sophie Turner) after a 1992 space shuttle rescue in which she absorbs cosmic energy. It was released in the US on June 7, 2019.
Spin-offs
X-Men Origins: Wolverine, directed by Gavin Hood, traces James Howlett and his half-brother Victor Creed (Liev Schreiber) through one war after another from the 1840s. The Wolverine (2013), directed by James Mangold, moves the story from Nagasaki in 1945 to Tokyo. Logan (2017), also directed by Mangold, is set in 2029 and is rated R, with Dafne Keen as Laura. The three are grouped in Wolverine movies in order.
Deadpool (2016), directed by Tim Miller, and Deadpool 2, directed by David Leitch with Josh Brolin as Cable, are both R rated and star Ryan Reynolds. The New Mutants, directed by Josh Boone, puts five young patients in a locked hospital and reached US theaters on August 28, 2020 after Disney moved it from its original 2018 date.
The Marvel Studios film Deadpool & Wolverine is covered on its own page.
What Trailers Reveal About the Eras
In my view, the Fox trailers fall into three groups. The Singer films sold a team and a cause, the prequels sold two friends heading toward a split, and the R rated spin-offs sold a tone. The Marvel film has so far been introduced by its cast and date rather than by footage, which means, perhaps, that its first trailer will be our first look at how Abbott's Xavier and Sink's Jean Grey differ from the McAvoy and Turner versions.
