Who Plays Christina?

Who Is Christina in Divergent?

Christina is a supporting character in the Divergent series and a friend of Tris, played by Zoë Kravitz in all three films and credited simply as Christina. TMDB lists her under that single name, so the credits give no surname for her.

Kravitz appears in every film of the saga. In Divergent (2014), directed by Neil Burger, she is billed sixth, behind the leads Shailene Woodley and Theo James and then Ashley Judd, Jai Courtney and Ray Stevenson. In Insurgent (2015), directed by Robert Schwentke, she is again billed sixth. In Allegiant (2016), also directed by Schwentke, she is billed fourth.

If you want her place in the wider ensemble, the divergent cast page lists every principal actor, and the divergent characters page covers the rest of the group. Her closest ties are to Tris Prior and Four.

Christina's Story Arc Across the Three FilmsSpoilers

Christina's arc is told mostly through the group's escapes in Insurgent (2015) and Allegiant (2016), with the Candor trial as its turning point.

In Divergent (2014), Tris renames herself and joins the Dauntless faction, where trainees are ranked and the lowest are cut and left factionless. Christina is part of Tris's circle, though the main plot follows Tris, Four, Peter and the Erudite leader Jeanine Matthews. The film ends with the attack on Abnegation stopped and Tris and a small group of survivors escaping the city by train.

Insurgent is where her story turns. Jeanine takes control of the city and hunts the Divergent, and Tris and Four are put on trial under truth serum in the Candor faction. There, Tris admits that she killed Will, who was a friend of Christina. That confession strains Tris's bonds with her friends.

In Allegiant, Evelyn closes Chicago's wall and puts Jeanine's supporters on trial. Tris and Four free Tris's brother Caleb and slip over the wall with Tori, Christina and Peter. Tori dies when Edgar's guards pursue them, and soldiers then rescue the survivors and bring them to the Bureau of Genetic Welfare, led by David.

Christina's Relationships: Tris, Four and Will

Christina's most important relationship is her friendship with Tris, which Insurgent puts under strain. The other names people search with hers, Four and Will, matter for different reasons.

Tris. The two are friends in the Dauntless world of Divergent (2014). The friendship is strained in Insurgent when Tris admits under truth serum that she killed Will. In Allegiant they are on the same side again, because Christina escapes the city with Tris and later goes back to Chicago with Tris and Caleb.

Four (Tobias). People often ask, "Does Tobias date Christina?" Nothing in the plots of the three films presents a romance between Four and Christina. Four is Tris's partner in the story, and Christina appears alongside him as a member of the same fugitive group in Allegiant.

Will. Will is played by Ben Lloyd-Hughes in Divergent (2014) and is described in Insurgent as a friend of Christina. Tris's admission that she killed him is what strains Tris's bonds with her friends.

Peter, Caleb and Tori. In Allegiant she crosses the wall in the same escape party as Peter, Caleb and Tori. Tori is killed in the pursuit. When Tris breaks with David and heads back to Chicago, she goes with Caleb Prior and Christina, while Peter Hayes is not part of that return.

What Happens to Christina in the Divergent Series?Spoilers

Allegiant is the last film to show Christina, and it leaves her heading back to Chicago with Tris and Caleb. None of the three films' plots describes a final fate for her beyond that.

In Allegiant, after Tris breaks with David, she heads back to Chicago with Caleb and Christina. Meanwhile David promises Peter a reward and persuades Evelyn to release the amnesia gas that would erase everyone's memories. Four convinces Evelyn to stop, and Peter shoots Evelyn in the leg after realizing David has betrayed him, then opens the vault. Tris broadcasts the truth about the Chicago experiment, Caleb's explosion breaks the cloaking shield and exposes the Bureau, and the film leaves life beyond the wall open for a planned final film.

That film, Ascendant, was never made. Entertainment Weekly reported in October 2023 that Lionsgate's plans for a final film were scrapped and that author Veronica Roth said Ascendant would never be made. As of 3 November 2026, no new Divergent film has been officially announced or dated, as the divergent ascendant page explains. Roth's new novel The Sixth Faction was scheduled for 6 October 2026, and she has said a film of it is possible, but no deal has been reported.

As such, Christina's screen story ends where Allegiant leaves her. For the books, the divergent books vs movies page covers where the films depart from Roth's novels.

Best Moments: Where Christina Matters Most

In my opinion, Christina's strongest stretch is the Candor sequence in Insurgent, because it is the one place where the series asks what a friendship costs when the truth comes out. Tris admits she killed Will, and the scene works because Will was Christina's friend. It could be argued that this is the most grounded emotional beat in the middle film, which otherwise leans on simulations and the mystery box.

The second moment I would pick is the wall crossing in Allegiant. Christina goes over with Tris and Four after the Candor confession, and Tori is killed in that same pursuit, so the escape carries real weight.

The third is quieter, and it is her return to Chicago with Tris and Caleb after Tris breaks with David. Perhaps it is a small beat, but it shows her on Tris's side again during the Bureau storyline.

If you want to see her work in context, start with Insurgent and then watch Allegiant. The divergent movies in order page lays out the sequence.
