Who Plays Claire Redfield?
Who Is Claire Redfield in the Resident Evil Movies?
Claire Redfield is a survivor of the Umbrella Corporation's outbreaks who appears in four Resident Evil movies, in release order Resident Evil: Extinction, Resident Evil: Afterlife, Resident Evil: The Final Chapter and Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City, across two separate runs: the Anderson saga and the 2021 reboot. She is played by a different actor in each run. Ali Larter plays her in the Paul W. S. Anderson saga, first in Resident Evil: Extinction (2007), directed by Russell Mulcahy, then in Resident Evil: Afterlife (2010) and Resident Evil: The Final Chapter, both directed by Anderson. Kaya Scodelario plays her in Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City (2021), directed by Johannes Roberts, a reboot with its own version of events.
The credits name the part "Claire" in Extinction and "Claire Redfield" in Afterlife, The Final Chapter and Welcome to Raccoon City. The 2021 film spends time on her childhood in the Raccoon City orphanage, where she grew up with her older brother Chris. Claire is also a Capcom game character, with appearances such as Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil Code: Veronica, but this profile covers the films only. That also means the game-side details do not carry over: the films do not mention TerraSave, the organization linked to Claire in the games, and Alyson Court, who is known for voicing Claire in the games, is not in the film credits. The Anderson saga is led by Alice, played by Milla Jovovich, and Claire has a supporting role beside her.
The two runs also ask different things of her. In the Anderson films she is a convoy leader and, later, a victim of Umbrella's control, and she is billed third, second and third in those Anderson films. In the reboot she is the lead, billed first, and the film follows her arrival in Raccoon City, a dying town.

Claire Redfield's Story Across the Four FilmsSpoilers
Claire's story is told twice, once as a long survival arc across the Anderson films and once as a single night in 1998 in the reboot. In Extinction, the T-virus has wrecked the world and turned most of it into desert. Claire leads a convoy of survivors that includes Carlos, L.J. and K-Mart, and L.J. has been bitten and is hiding it. Infected crows attack the group, and Alice arrives and saves them with her telekinetic powers. She then persuades Claire to head for Alaska, where a notebook points to an uninfected area. The convoy is later ambushed by zombies bred by Dr. Isaacs, most of it dies, and Carlos sacrifices himself by driving a tanker of dynamite into the horde at the entrance to Umbrella's underground facility.
Afterlife takes the leadership away from her. Alice follows a broadcast about a safe haven named Arcadia and finds Claire in Alaska, dazed, with no memory of her past and under Umbrella's control. The two fly to Los Angeles, where a city of undead surrounds a prison, and they join the few survivors trapped inside. The group also frees Chris Redfield from the cells.
In The Final Chapter, Claire is among the survivors who join Alice for the return to the Hive. She helps fight off Isaacs's convoy, and Wesker captures her inside the Hive. After the Red Queen crushes Wesker's leg in a door, Claire kills Doc, who turns out to be Umbrella's spy.
Welcome to Raccoon City starts earlier and smaller. Claire grew up in the Raccoon City orphanage with her older brother Chris, befriended a girl named Lisa Trevor who was harmed by Umbrella's experiments, and later escaped. In 1998 she hitches a ride back to the city and sees early signs of the outbreak. She tries to warn Chris, but infected people close in and she has to run. She teams up with rookie officer Leon and Chief Irons as the police station is overrun, and they head for the orphanage to find a hidden tunnel that leads to the Spencer Mansion.
Claire Redfield and Chris Redfield, Leon and Alice
Claire Redfield is the younger sister of Chris Redfield in Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City (2021), where the two grew up together in the Raccoon City orphanage. Robbie Amell plays Chris in that film. In Afterlife, Wentworth Miller plays Chris Redfield, who is held in the prison cells in Los Angeles and freed by the group Claire has joined. For the full picture, read the Chris Redfield profile.
Her link with Alice is the spine of the Anderson run. Alice rescues the convoy in Extinction, finds Claire again in Alaska in Afterlife, and Claire is among the survivors who join her in The Final Chapter. Milla Jovovich plays Alice in all of them.
In the reboot, her key partner is Leon Kennedy, played by Avan Jogia, a rookie cop on his first shift. The two team up with Chief Irons, and later Leon destroys the pursuing monster with a rocket launcher. Her other ties are with Jill Valentine, who is among the survivors leaving the tunnel in 2021 and appears in Afterlife as a mind controlled aircraft leader, and with Lisa Trevor, played by Marina Mazepa, whose help gets Claire and Leon to the underground lab.
Her enemies are the series' usual faces. Wesker, played by Shawn Roberts in the Anderson saga and Tom Hopper in the reboot, captures her in The Final Chapter. Albert Wesker has his own profile. Isaacs, played by Iain Glen, breeds the zombies that ambush her convoy.
Does Claire Redfield Survive the Resident Evil Movies?Spoilers
Claire survives Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City (2021), and her fate in the Anderson saga is left open after she kills Doc in The Final Chapter. In the reboot, the train is damaged as the city is destroyed and the mutated William Birkin chases the survivors. Leon kills him with a rocket launcher. Claire, Chris, Jill, Leon and Birkin's young daughter Sherry leave the tunnel alive even though Umbrella has reported no survivors.
In The Final Chapter, Claire kills Doc after Wesker has been fired by Alicia Marcus. Wesker then drops his deadman's switch and destroys himself, Alicia, the Hive and the sleeping elite. The film does not show whether Claire gets out of the Hive. She is absent from Resident Evil (2026), Zach Cregger's film about a courier named Bryan and a single night at Raccoon City General Hospital.
Her appearances in the Anderson saga (Extinction, Afterlife and The Final Chapter) and her single appearance in the 2021 reboot, four films in all, are separate stories, so the character has no single fate across the movies. For the order in which to watch the films, see Resident Evil movies in order.
Claire Redfield's Best Moments in the Movies
In my opinion, Claire's best moment in the Anderson run is her first one: the convoy in Extinction crossing a wrecked world with a bitten passenger hiding his wound. The crows are a clean example of how a film can make a familiar animal frightening, and Claire's job in the scene is to make the group's decisions look sensible, which is harder than it sounds. It could be argued that the Afterlife version is the weakest use of her, since a character with no memory and Umbrella's control on her spends much of the film being rescued rather than choosing anything.
Her finest scene may be in The Final Chapter, where she kills Doc after he is revealed as the spy. It is a small, decisive act inside a very busy film, and it gives Larter's Claire a payoff that the earlier sequels held back.
In the reboot, perhaps the best moment is the quiet one: Claire and Leon reaching the underground lab with the help of Lisa Trevor, the girl harmed by Umbrella's experiments whom Claire befriended as a child. That choice gives Scodelario's Claire a reason to be in the story beyond warning her brother, and it ties the orphanage to the mansion in a way that feels earned. If you only watch one Claire film, I would point you to Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City. If you want to follow Alice, begin with Resident Evil: Extinction.

Chris Redfield also appears in Resident Evil: Afterlife, played by Wentworth Miller, where he is freed from the prison cells in Los Angeles.
Is Leon married to Claire?
