Step Up Box Office: Worldwide Totals for Every Film

The five Step Up films earned about $649 million worldwide between August 2006 and August 2014, using the grosses reported by Box Office Mojo. Roughly $216 million of that came from North America and about $433 million from the rest of the world, so two of every three dollars were earned overseas. The television series Step Up: High Water is not a film and has no box office, so it sits outside every figure here. The films below run in release order, and the full list is on the step up movies hub.

Step Up (2006), directed by Anne Fletcher, took $114 million worldwide on a $12 million budget, with $65 million at the domestic box office and $49 million abroad. It remains the series' best domestic result. Step Up 2: The Streets (2008), directed by Jon M. Chu, grossed $149 million worldwide on a $17.5 million budget, split between $58 million domestic and $91 million international.

Step Up 3D (2010), also directed by Chu, earned $159 million worldwide on a $30 million budget. Only $42 million of that was domestic, while $117 million came from international markets. Step Up Revolution (2012), directed by Scott Speer, made $140 million worldwide on a $33 million budget, with $35 million domestic and $105 million international. The largest budget on record in the series, then, produced a smaller worldwide gross than the film before it.

Step Up All In (2014), directed by Trish Sie, finished with $86 million worldwide, made up of $15 million domestic and $71 million international. The Numbers lists no budget for it, so its return on cost cannot be stated.

Trackers do not always agree. The Numbers lists Step Up Revolution at $130.5 million international and $165.6 million worldwide, while Box Office Mojo shows $140 million worldwide, the same figure TMDB carries. The grosses here follow Box Office Mojo. For the order the films were released in, see the step up movies in order guide, and for the full count of titles see how many step up movies there are.

Which Step Up Made the Most Money? Reading the Numbers

By Box Office Mojo's figures, Step Up 3D made the most money in the series at $159 million worldwide, with Step Up 2: The Streets second at $149 million. The Numbers lists a different worldwide figure for Step Up Revolution ($165.6 million, against $140 million at Box Office Mojo), so that film's total varies by tracker.

Which Step Up was the best business? In my opinion, that is still Step Up (2006). It cost $12 million and returned about 9.5 times its budget worldwide, ahead of Step Up 2: The Streets at about 8.5 times, Step Up 3D at about 5.3 times and Step Up Revolution at about 4.3 times. A modest Baltimore story led by Channing Tatum as Tyler Gage and Jenna Dewan as Nora Clark did more with less than any sequel, and it also holds the series' best domestic total.

The pattern underneath the totals is the most interesting part. Domestic grosses fell with every release: $65 million, then $58 million, $42 million, $35 million and finally $15 million for All In. International grosses went the other way for a while, climbing from $49 million to $91 million to a peak of $117 million for Step Up 3D, before settling at $105 million and $71 million. It could be argued that the saga turned from an American teen hit into an overseas dance spectacle, and that the bigger budgets of Step Up 3D ($30 million) and Step Up Revolution ($33 million) were chasing that audience.

Is Step Up 6 coming out? As of November 2026, no studio, distributor or trade outlet has announced a new Step Up film with a release date, so nothing is confirmed. The latest verifiable news is television: TheWrap reported in 2020 that Step Up: High Water moved from YouTube to Starz. Current status lives on the step up 6 page, and any footage would be collected under step up 6 trailer.

Why did they stop making Step Up movies? No studio has given a public reason, so anything stated as fact would be a guess. That being said, the numbers offer a reasonable reading: All In earned the least of the five films, with $86 million worldwide, and its domestic gross was less than a quarter of the original's. Perhaps the audience simply moved on, which would be a quiet end for a saga that began with Tyler and Nora and carried characters such as Moose into three films.

If you are a parent picking a title for family movie night, the grosses say little about what suits your kids, so check the step up reviews and the step up movies ranked list before you press play.
