Is There a Divergent Ascendant Trailer?
There is no Divergent Ascendant trailer from a finished film, because Ascendant was planned as the fourth and final film and was never produced. Videos that rank for searches such as "Divergent 4: Ascendant Trailer" therefore do not promote a released film. If you watch one, check the channel name first and treat it as unofficial unless a studio confirms it. The released films starred Shailene Woodley as Beatrice Prior and Theo James as Tobias Eaton, and those are the names such videos usually put in their titles.
The film history belongs to the three released films. Divergent (2014), directed by Neil Burger, introduced the walled future Chicago and its five factions. Insurgent (2015), directed by Robert Schwentke, followed Tris, Four, Caleb and Peter on the run from Jeanine Matthews. Allegiant (2016), also directed by Schwentke, sent the group over the wall.
Why Was Ascendant Never Made?
Ascendant was dropped after Allegiant performed below the earlier films, and the plan changed more than once. Allegiant was released in the US on March 18, 2016, and took about $179 million worldwide according to Box Office Mojo, on a $110 million budget according to The Numbers. Divergent (2014) had earned about $289 million on an $85 million budget, and Insurgent about $297 million. In September 2015, The Christian Science Monitor reported that the final two films would be titled Allegiant and Ascendant, with spring 2017 as the window for the second. Then, on February 9, 2016, Deadline reported that Schwentke would not direct Ascendant, as relayed by ScreenCrush. Slashfilm reported on July 20, 2016 that the final chapter would move to a TV movie after Allegiant's weak performance. Veronica Roth, whose novels the films adapt, has said that Ascendant will never be made and that the story feels complete (Entertainment Weekly, October 2023).
What Does the Missing Trailer Tell Us About the Series?
In my opinion, the absence of an Ascendant trailer is best read as the end of a slow decline that the numbers show clearly. Divergent (2014) cost $85 million and earned about $289 million worldwide. Insurgent raised the budget to $110 million and earned about $297 million, so the extra spending bought only a small rise in gross. Allegiant kept the $110 million budget and fell to about $179 million, roughly 60 percent of what Insurgent made. A studio looking at those three lines would hesitate over a fourth film at the same cost, which is why the TV movie idea reported by Slashfilm sounds like a cheaper attempt to finish the story rather than a creative choice.
The production history points the same way. Burger directed only the first film, then Schwentke took over for Insurgent and Allegiant, and by February 2016 he was reported to be leaving the finale as well. That is two changes of direction in a trilogy that began as a single walled city under one director. It could be argued that the story also changed its own footing: Divergent (2014) is built around the choosing ceremony and the Dauntless initiation inside Chicago, while Allegiant opens with the escape over the wall into unfamiliar territory. Perhaps the series asked its audience to follow it further from its best setting than the box office would support.
So, if you want a real trailer, search for the three released films by title and look for the studio channel as the uploader. Any clip labelled Ascendant is a fan edit or a repackaged scene from the earlier films.
Is a New Divergent Movie Coming?
As of November 3, 2026, no new Divergent film has been officially announced or dated, so there is no new trailer to expect. Roth's new alternate universe novel, The Sixth Faction, was due on October 6, 2026, with a sequel, The Last Testimony, due in February 2027. No deal or studio announcement for a film of either book has been reported. When a studio confirms anything, divergent ascendant will carry the status and date first.
