Michael Myers has been credited to a different performer in nearly every production, and the 1978 film credits Tony Moran as "Michael Myers age 23". The names below come from each film's billed cast. Halloween III: Season of the Witch is a standalone with no Michael Myers, and Halloween H20 does not list a Myers performer among its first 15 billed credits.

Nine directors have made the Halloween films, and only three of them (Rick Rosenthal, Rob Zombie and David Gordon Green) directed more than one. John Carpenter directed halloween 1978 and never directed another entry in the series.

Rick Rosenthal is the only director to return after a long gap, making halloween ii 1981 and then halloween resurrection in 2002. Rob Zombie made the two remakes, halloween 2007 rob zombie and halloween 2 2009. Green directed all three films of the 2018 trilogy and co-wrote halloween ends, according to TheWrap.

The original run. Curtis and Donald Pleasence anchor 1978 and 1981. Charles Cyphers appears as Brackett in both films, and Nancy Stephens plays Marion in both, then again in H20. Nancy Kyes is Annie in 1978 and returns in a different role, Linda Challis, in Season of the Witch. Danielle Harris and Ellie Cornell carry films 4 and 5 as jamie lloyd halloween and Rachel Carruthers. In The Curse of Michael Myers, J.C. H20 and Resurrection. H20 brings Curtis back as Laurie, who has faked her death and now lives in California as Keri Tate. Resurrection gives Curtis a smaller role, billed eleventh.

The remakes. Rob Zombie recast the leads. Scout Taylor-Compton replaces Curtis, Malcolm McDowell replaces Pleasence, and Brad Dourif plays Sheriff Lee Brackett. Danielle Harris returns to the series in a new role, Annie Brackett, and Skyler Gisondo plays Tommy Doyle.

The 2018 trilogy. Curtis, Cyphers, Nick Castle and Anthony Michael Hall (as Tommy Doyle) return in halloween kills, and Kyle Richards returns as Lindsey in halloween ends, the same role she played in 1978.

So, why do the Michael Myers actors keep changing? The credits do not give one reason, and in my opinion the pattern points to the structure of the series: each restart has a new director and a new production team, and the role is billed as "The Shape" in several films, which suggests a part defined by the mask and the movement more than the face. In the 2018 trilogy, James Jude Courtney is credited in all three films and Castle in the first two.
